Walk of the marian sanctuaries of Alpe Adria Trail from Tarvisio Monte Lussari to Cividale Castelmonte

An exciting experience that in an ideal walk starts from the Sanctuary of Monte Lussari, at 1790 meters above sea level, and reaches Castelmonte near Cividale del Friuli, through a suggestive route along the valley of the Soca river in Slovenia. Suggested period: from May to October.

Day 1

TARVISIO/CAMPOROSSO

Arrival in the Tarvisio area with your own means; check-in at the hotel; typical dinner with local specialties and overnight stay.

Day 2

TARVISIO/CAMPOROSSO – MONTE LUSSARI – TARVISIO

AAT R4 stage going up Monte Lussari through the Pilgrim's Path. In addition to being a place of naturalistic interest, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Lussari unites people of Slavic, Italian and German origins. Already in the 16th century the mountain was a destination for pilgrimages of the three peoples; today it can undoubtedly be considered a European Sanctuary. You will discover the fairy-tale legend behind the solemn Christian religiosity and you will visit the Sanctuary and the picturesque village. Lunch in a typical Gasthaus. The return can be done on foot or with the comfortable cable car. 3.5hrs, difference in altitude: up 1162m, down 1219m.

Day 3

TARVISIO – RIFUGIO ZACCHI

AAT R5 stage, a fascinating walk that leads to the wonderful Fusine lakes and the Zacchi refuge, surrounded by a view of the Ponze and Julian Alps.

Km 18.8 – Duration 6.30h, difference in altitude up1259m, down 627m

Dinner and overnight stay in a refuge, multiple rooms. It is advisable to bring a sleeping bag and towel.

Day 4

ZACCHI REFUGE – KRANJSKA GORA

AAT R6 stage – Km 16.2 – Duration 5.30h, difference in altitude up618, down 1187.

Day 5

KRANJSKA GORA – TOLMIN

Private transfer from Kranjska Gora to Tolmin following the wonderful landscapes of the Soca Valley and the Triglav National Park. Rest day.

Day 6

TOLMIN – UPPER TRIBIL

Stage AAT 27 – Km 19.5 – Duration 6.0h, difference in altitude up1308, down879.

From Tolmin we climb towards Italy and Kolovrat in the places where the fighting took place during the First World War along part of the path of peace.

Check in at the Albergo Diffuso, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7

TRIBIL SUPERIORE – CASTELMONTE – CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI

Stage AAT 28 – Km 23.4 – Duration 7.0h, difference in altitude up161, down 1121.

The stage that has as its destination the fascinating Roman and Lombard town of Cividale del Friuli, takes us to the sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Castelmonte, which stands on the top of a mountain whose foundation dates back to the 5th century under the influence of the Patriarchate of Aquileia.
