Spring Awakening on the Alpe-Adria-Trail: The Perfect Way to Start the Hiking Season

Hiking in the Garden of Eden: from the glacier to the sea. Walk the Alpe-Adria-Trail in Carinthia during the awakening of spring. Set out on a dream journey that takes you from the frozen planes of the Grossglockner along roaring waterfalls, across blooming alpine meadows all the way to the idyllic fishing village of Muggia on the azure-blue Adriatic coast. It is no wonder that the renowned National Geographic Traveler magazine listed the Alpe-Adria-Trail among the World’s Best New Hikes in 2016. And the Alpe-Adria-Trail Booking Centre with its excellent range of services is dedicated to making this the most fantastic hiking journey of your life.

Here are the most beautiful spring-time sections of the Alpe-Adria-Trail:

Under the Spell of the Grossglockner (Stage 01 – 02)
Divine peace, crystal-clear air and the primeval, glacial landscape around the Grossglockner,    Austria’s highest mountain, characterise the entry-point of the Alpe-Adria-Trail in the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Wild Waters  (Stage 07 – 08)
The roaring waterfalls and wild gorges of the Hohe Tauern National Park are never more impressive than during the thaw of spring.

The Artists’ Town of Gmünd    (Stage 10 – 11)
The art of being a wanderer: on your hiking journey, take the time to stop off in Gmünd – an enchanting small town with medieval architecture and a lively art scene of museums, galleries and exhibitions.

Path of Love  (Stage 12 – 13)
Springtime romance on the Alpe-Adria-Trail: High above the Millättersee lake, you walk along the   Path of Love to the formidable Garnet Gate.

Alpine Rose  (Stage 15 – 16)

In late spring, the flowering alpine rose covers the Nockberge Biosphere Park in glowing red hues.

Lake Hiking  (Stage 20 – 21)

At this time of year, it is still peaceful and quiet as you hike along the shores of Carinthia’s dreamy swimming lakes. The gloriously cool, turquoise-blue water makes for a lovely pitstop for tired hiking feet.
